The swift rush of cheap mobile phone market in Indonesia seems to make the BlackBerry rack my brain to catch up. Canadian manufacturer who could dominate the world of smartphone a few years ago it was decided to no longer pursue entry-level segment, but the focus of the efforts to boost sales of the upper-middle class.
This was disclosed by the Managing Director of BlackBerry Indonesia Sofran Irchamni after the launch of BlackBerry Classic in Jakarta, Wednesday (25/03/2015).
"We will focus on mid-high class smartphone, there is a good market share," said Sofran when met by Kompas Tekno. He is optimistic the smartphone market upper-middle class will grow faster in Indonesia than the entry-level segment.
"My estimate, smartphone in this segment will be more sophisticated so that those who had been accustomed to working on the PC will switch to upscale smartphones. That PCs declined while smartphone ride," he added.
As for the upper-middle segment is meant by Sofran is a smartphone with a price range of $
384.10. "BlackBerry Classic example is that we launched on this occasion," he said.
In Indonesia, the BlackBerry Classic priced at price range of $ 430.19. BlackBerry has other models in the segment above, namely Passport brings together the features of a full QWERTY keyboard. Price BlackBerry Passport pegged at the rate of $ 729.79 when it was launched early with bundling of data from mobile operators, in November last year.
Although said it was not interested in competing in the realm of entry-level smartphone, Sofran not specify whether the BlackBerry will be re-released model of affordable smartphones in Indonesia or not. Finally, the manufacturer of BlackBerry Z3 launched in May 2014. When the phone codenamed "Jakarta" is priced at less than $ 153.64.
BlackBerry market share in Indonesia is reported to have decreased dramatically due to competition from manufacturers of Android smartphones. In the first half of 2014, the research institute IDC report says that the share of the smartphone market BlackBerry in Indonesia, which was referred to as "BlackBerry Nation" has been shrunk down to 3 percent.
